Sail4Recovery – recovery at sea
Not a mass-produced product, not a quick fix, but a living quest: what does the sea do to a person seeking space?
Sail4Recovery takes people out onto the water for a few days. Not as a therapy program, but as an experience. Sailing together, living on board, following the rhythm of wind and water.
At sea, things naturally become simpler.
You steer, set sail, cook, look at the horizon. Conversations arise when they want to arise. Silence is good too.

Recovery Trips – Long Weekends
Starting this season, Sail4Recovery is organizing small-scale sailing trips lasting a long weekend.
We sail with a small group of a maximum of 2 to 3 guests on board. A trip usually looks like this:
• Friday 11:00 gathering in the port of Dordrecht
• introductions, preparing the ship, shopping, and departure
• four days of sailing, anchoring, or calling at a port
• Monday back in Dordrecht
Exactly where we go depends on the wind and weather. Sometimes towards Zeeland or otherwise the Haringvliet, and in good weather, a stretch out to sea.
The sea dictates the pace.
Sail4Recovery is intended for people who want to take responsibility for their own process.
For people who:
- want to recover from a disruptive experience
- are looking for space to find direction again
find that nature and movement help to gain clarity - prefer to experience and do rather than just talk
It is not a therapy program and not an organized group trip. It is a small ship on which people are on a journey together for a while.
How it works on board
On board, everyone participates in life on the ship.
This can include:
• steering
• setting sails
• cooking
• navigating
• simply looking at the sea
There is no fixed program. The experience develops naturally through sailing, the rhythm of the days, and being underway together.
Costs
Sail4Recovery is not a commercial charter company. We share the costs of the trip. This means:
• port dues
• food and drinks
• diesel when necessary
• a contribution towards ship maintenance
Guideline for a long weekend: approximately €250 – €350 per person.
Getting to know each other
We get in touch before every trip. We look at which dates work best, and once there are two participants, we depart. The most important thing is that everyone feels comfortable on board. Would you like to sail with us sometime or just get to know us?
Feel free to get in touch.
The journey so far
Sail4Recovery was born from years of experience in mental healthcare, expertise based on lived experience, and a deep love for sailing.
Recently, the focus has been on:
• making the ship seaworthy
• developing how Sail4Recovery intends to operate
• building a network of people around the project
Now that the ship is ready, the next phase begins: sailing together.
Sail4Recovery is a project in motion.
Step by step, the ship and the community surrounding it grow. What starts on the water carries over to land, and vice versa.
Want to sail with us?
Sail4Recovery is small. No large groups, no rigid schedule, just a few people on board and the sea as a space to breathe again. Curious if a trip suits you? Feel free to send a message.
We will first schedule a chat or a cup of coffee on board in Dordrecht. From there, we will see together if joining us for a long weekend is a good next step.
Sometimes just one weekend on the water is enough to get things moving again.
